Alexander Wetterhall wins the Ronde van Drenthe

Alexander Wetterhall secured the first win of the season for Team NetApp – Endura in the Albert Achterhes Pet Ronde van Drenthe. The 26-year-old Swede broke away from a leading group more than 30 kilometers before the finish and rode solo to his victory as if it were a time trial. Team colleagues Markus Eichler and Andreas Schillinger filled the other two places on the podium for NetApp – Endura, taking second and third in the traditional Dutch race.

Albasini wins stage of seven cols in Paris-Nice

Orica-GreenEdge’s Michael Albasini won the fourth stage of Paris-Nice into Saint-Vallier, breezing past Astana’s Maxim Iglinskiy in the final straight for a very comfortable victory. Luke does the double!

Luke Durbridge stormed to victory in the elite men’s road race at the Mars Cycling Australia National Road Championships. The West Australian put himself in the early break and slowly but steadily rid himself of his breakmates to cross the finish line alone. Durbridge’s double affords him a unique place in cycling history. He is the first Australian male professional to take titles in both the time trial and road race in the same year.

Gerrans takes the Sanremo!

Australian National Road Champion Simon Gerrans gave Australia back-to-back wins at Milano-Sanremo. Gerrans outsprinted Fabian Cancellara, (RadioShack-Nissan-Trek) in a close sprint, and Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas-Cannondale) to take top honors at the first spring monument classic race!

“I still haven’t realized what we actually did today,” said Gerrans. “This is an amazing feeling to win this monument. The team rode perfectly, and we played our cards just the right way.”

It’s amazing for GreenEDGE to win a Classic – to win the first real Classic we’ve done as a team,” added Gerrans. “To finish up the great work the guys did today is an honor. A big thanks to everyone on this team – the staff, the riders and the people who created this team.”
